The workshop aimed at raising awareness on the bilateral relations of the two countries, Turkey and Armenia, from the aspect of the latest rapprochement, i.e. The Turkey-Armenia Protocol signed on October 2009.
Participants were given tasks to work on, dealing with issues such as the role of the civil society organisations in building sustainable relations between the two countries, the effect of the rapprochement on the region and the concrete actions to be taken to strengthen the relations between two countries.
Participants, working in groups, set forth the current situation of Civil Society Organisations in their countries, how influential they are or not on political and social issues such as Turkish-Armenia relations. They brought awareness and better recognition on the situations on both countries, where participants gained the opportunity to better understand one another. On the other hand, they got the chance to understand the importance of neighbourhood, peace and cross border relations, both for Turkey and Armenia, as well as for the whole region of Caucuses, Middle East, Europe and Russia. As result of the group work assignments, they set out concrete measures and activities which can easily be taken by NGOs and Civil Society Organisations and youth clubs. The most common and clear output was the investments on exchange of youth, academicians and creation of common platform to be mutually used by both sides to keep and deepen the relations.
Socially speaking, the participants made very good friendship, by exchanging contact information as well as sincere, direct and considerate views. They mingled right from the first hours of their meeting and the interaction lasted till the last moments of the workshop. Shortly, this workshop, with its content, tasks and social facilities contributed to bringing awareness on the importance of the rapprochement and good relations, as well as on the existence of so many common characteristics at both parties.
