NATO workshops in Adana and Mersin - ARI Movement 19.-20. November 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Two workshops on NATO and Turkey’s position in the international realm were conducted in Adana and Mersin. Around 25 students participated in each of the seminars.

Current polls on transatlantic relations in 2008 demonstrated that public support for NATO policies among Turkish youth is in decline. One of the reasons for anti-NATO stand of Turkish youth is misperception on NATO’s role and lack of information on NATO policies. Whilst NATO redefines its strategic role in the world, parallely it seemed useful and timely to open up discussions in Anatolian provinces of Turkey with the participation of Turkish youth.

Two workshops on NATO and Turkey’s position in the international realm were conducted in Adana and Mersin. With around 25 participants in each of the seminars NATO’s aims, contributions to world peace and its future role, the relations between NATO and Turkey and the EU’s role within NATO and its changing challenges in security policy were discussed.

Also intergrated in the workshops were of interactive games, group works and debates which faciliated the learning process.

Participants were highly motivated and the workshops in both provinces were great successes.
