“New draft Communiqué of the Turkish Competition Authority on Mergers and Acquisitions” 7 May 2010 PDF Print E-mail

The İstanbul Branch of the Competition Association organized its second activity on the May 7th, 2010, in Elit World Prestige Hotel, İstanbul, with the support of the Frederic Naumann Foundation. The aim of this activity was to provide an environment for the discussions on the new draft Communiqué of the Turkish Competition Authority on Mergers and Acquisitions which has been on the agenda of the Turkish Competition Authority and which was recently provided to the public to be opined on.

In the meeting, the Vice Chairman of the Turkish Competition Authority, Mr. Erkan Yardımcı and Competition Experts Mr. Orçun Şenyücel and Mr. Salim Aydemir addressed the audience of Turkish legal, academic and and business environment, summarizing the work done on the new draft communiqué, followed by the recent amendments and changes that have been made on the existing draft and the old communiqué. After the presentation, the participants have provided their opinions and criticisms on the draft.

The new draft Communique is considered as a singal of a shift towards a more economical analysis with significant emphasis on efficiency benefits to be created with the concentrations. In this respect, it can be argued that the work load for the undertakings and their consultants in their applications to the Competition Authority will be increasing in future.
