The Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV)
The Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV), established in1994, is an Istanbul-based think tank supported by private sector funding from Turkey and abroad.The 15-member board of TESEV includes some of Turkey's best-known opinion leaders, constituting of representatives of the business, academia and non-governmental communities. TESEV focuses on the most important policy questions facing Turkey and the region in the new century. Program areas are grouped under three headings:
ARI Movement is an independent social movement that aims at educating the future (societal) leaders of Turkey, fostering participatory democracy and increasing Turkey’s influence in international arenas. ARI Movement’s mission is to reflect the transformation in the economic, social and cultural arena to the political one and help establish an information-based philosophy of politics described as a “New Political Understanding”. To proceed with its vision ARI Movement pursues its activities through four channels of professional and volunteers:
Istanbul Policy Center (IPC), physically located at Sabancı University, founded with a view to improving the quality and effectiveness of public policymaking in Turkey and the region. The Center establishes a network of cooperation with universities, think-tanks, and other similar research institutions both in Turkey and abroad in order to engage in broad participation of distinguished thinkers, scholars, experts, and practitioners to produce independent research as well as generate policy recommendations on issues of current relevance and significance.
Association for Liberal Thinking was established informally by a few like-minded people in 26 December 1992. It gained official status as an Association on 1 April 1994. The objectives of ALT as a non-profit, non-governmental organization are to introduce to Turkish public the richness of the intellectual tradition that lay at the heart of the liberal democratic civilization; to engage in activities that promote understanding and acceptance of values like liberty, justice, peace, human rights, the rule of law, tolerance; to encourage development of academic researches on liberal themes; and to contribute to finding effective solutions to Turkey's political and economic problems within the liberal thought.
Competition Association was established in 2004 as a non-governmental organization in Ankara. Founders were former chairman and members of Competition Institute of the Turkish Republic, academics who were working on competition, jurnalists, manufacturers, bankers and lawyers. It aims to contribute to the development of competition and competition culture in Turkey.
Istanbul branch of Central Government. It has a coordination and supervision power on all public bodies in Istanbul. FNSt – Governor’s office cooperation has started in 2005. FNSt cooperates in conducting “Basic EU Training Programs” designed to prepare public servants to deal with the EU issues and projects.
The 3H Movement is a young liberal think-tank in Turkey that has been active since December 2006. Since then, the 3H Movement has been fighting against illiberal ideologies such as socialism, fascism, radical conservatism and authoritarianism in Turkey by either arranging regular seminars or occasional activist protests. The movement has a daily-updated website where the members publish their articles on various economic and political issues with a liberal viewpoint. 3H Movement also organizes a traditional liberal youth congress hosting students nationwide to discuss political, social and economic matters in a liberal perspective.
To organize seminars and campaigns to promote liberal values like freedom and rights of individuals, free market economy and rule of law by cooperating and supporting political parties, non-governmental organizations and keeping in touch with press and columnists.
Apart from these partnerships the Foundation cooperates on a punctual basis with numerous Turkish groups and initiatives, most of whom coming from civil society. In all cases, the promotion of liberal values and principles is an element of our cooperation.
