Joerg Dehnert, the Turkey representative of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation – the think tank that represents the philosophy of the Free Democratic Party – says that for liberals, Turkey belongs to Europe. 'The concept of privileged partnership does not exist for the FDP,' he adds. However, Turkey's reform policy will come under more serious scrutiny with the FDP in government, according to Dehnert.

Before travelling to Middle East and Arabic Countries, German Foreign Minister Mr. Guido Westerwelle visited Ankara and Istanbul from 6th to 8th January 2010. After his talks and meetings with the political authorities in Ankara, Westerwelle arrived in Istanbul on the evening of January 7th 2010.
Liberal Youth Meeting held between 25-26 December 2009 by 3H Movement which determines its principles as improvement of liberty, rule of law and tolerance. More than a hundred young people attended to the meeting from all over Turkey.
The second working meeting of the “Media Watch on Hate Speech” project was held in Istanbul on 12-13 December 2009.
The aim of the meeting was to raise awareness among the local newspapers on hate speech and discriminative language, with the aim of prevention of further use of it.
This one day’s program was designed for German journalists to get to know different groups of Izmir’s society. Three German journalists from İstanbul attended meetings with students of the Dokuz Eylül University, with journlists from Izmir and buissnessmen from the EGİAD.
Arab – Turkish Dialogue Forum, held between 21-22 November 2009, in Istanbul, was a joint initiative of Istanbul Kultur University – Global Political Trends Center (IKU/GPoT), Centre for Arab Unity Studies (CAUS) and Arab Democracy Foundation (ADF), within the support of the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung (FNS).
